WELCOME

i have created this blog for a class i am in during my last semester of college. the assignment is that we have to create a journal of design. this journal could be digital (as a pdf, on a cd, on a flash drive, etc), or it could be physical (in a sketchbook, a stack of cards, etc). but when i think of the word JOURNAL, i think of words. so i thought the best way for me to organize this journal of mine was to make a blog instead. this way im not just collecting and compiling images into a pile (digital or physical), but im actually taking the time to analyze and dissect them (also this has to do with my passion for art history...).

i named it ob(serve) because my goal is to observe design (thus the blog and commentary), but i emphasized the word serve because i also serve the design community. so i am looking while at the same time i am contributing.

since i only thought of this towards the last few weeks of the semester, i might entertain you with more than one post in a day. i will try my best to separate posts by topic, but sometimes i ramble. and since i am graduating (oh no, the G-word!!) in two weeks, i dont want the fun to stop there!! im hoping that as a degree-holder and professional that i can find the time to maintain this blog for as long as possible. and really, why not?

my goal is to post images of design: packaging, branding, web, product, evironmental graphics, objects, architecture, advertising, print, etc. the images might be ones i find whilst surfing the interweb, photos i take with my crappy camera phone, things ive collected and scanned in, and so on. then i want to comment on them. i feel that now that im on the verge of a degree in graphic design (the first of a few?), i should start documenting the fact that i am paying attention to design around me. i have been stuffing it all in my head, but now its coming to fruition in the form of bytes of information floating about in cyberspace.

i am not going to try to be witty, and i am not intending to offend. this is purely my opinion as a young designer, consumer, woman, and human being with a life (the lost does not stop there). some posts might be long, some might be short, some might be incoherent, some you might agree with, some you might not agree with. either way:

PLEASE COMMENT WHENEVER YOU WANT. we are all affected by the design around us, whether or not we contribute to it. so please, even if you are not a designer (or my teacher), please put in your two cents.

consider this your disclaimer.

side note: i dont like to capitalize or use apostrophes unless its necessary.
